Abstract

Objective: This study investigates the dynamics of poverty in Ukraine and globally, focusing on the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic and the war in Ukraine. It examines how these events have influenced poverty rates, unemployment, emigration, inflation, and the overall economic landscape in Ukraine and Europe.

Method: The research employs a comprehensive analysis of statistical data, considering global poverty trends and specific developments in Ukraine. It evaluates the effects of COVID-19 and the subsequent war on various economic indicators, such as unemployment rates, GDP, and inflation. The study also incorporates data on Ukrainian refugees in Europe and their socioeconomic status.

Results: The study reveals a reversal in the declining global poverty trend due to the pandemic and war. In Ukraine, poverty rates escalated significantly, with notable increases in unemployment and a substantial number of internally displaced persons. The influx of Ukrainian refugees had a considerable impact on European countries, contributing to higher poverty levels and inflation rates. The war has also disrupted the Ukrainian labor market and economy, leading to a drastic increase in poverty.

Conclusions: The dual impact of the COVID-19 pandemic and the Ukrainian war has led to a significant rise in poverty levels in Ukraine and Europe. The war's consequences extend beyond the immediate crisis, affecting global poverty dynamics and economic stability. Addressing these challenges requires concerted efforts to support affected populations and stabilize the economic situation in both Ukraine and Europe. The cessation of the war is crucial for reversing the upward trend in poverty rates and restoring economic growth.
